"WILLIAM de Ferrers of Groby, Leicestershire, son of WILLIAM Ferrers Earl of Derby & his second wife Margaret de Quincy of Winchester (-before 20 Dec 1287). His parentage is confirmed by John of Fordun's Scotichronicon (Continuator) which records the marriage in 1270 of "Willelmus Ferreris, filius comitissĉ de Ferreris quĉ fuit filia Rogeri de Quinci constabularii Scotiĉ" and "relictam Colbani nuper defuncti" and adding that he received "dignitatem constabulariĉ" at the same time. Inquisitions after a writ "9 Edw I" following the death 15 Apr of "Margaret de Ferrariis countess of Derbeye" name her son "William de Ferrariis...".

John of Fordun's Scotichronicon (Continuator) records the marriage in 1270 of "Willelmus Ferreris, filius comitissĉ de Ferreris quĉ fuit filia Rogeri de Quinci constabularii Scotiĉ" and "relictam Colbani nuper defuncti et dignitatem constabulariĉ".
